Amazon Prime Day is pretty much like Black Friday, but in celebration of Amazon hitting another milestone. Why did Prime Day start? Prime Day was created as a way to celebrate Prime members. The first Prime Day event came to life on Amazon’s 20th birthday on July 15, 2015. Prime Day is Amazon's deal event exclusively for Prime members, featuring deals on top brands and small businesses.


When is Amazon Prime Day?

In 2023, Amazon Prime Day was held from Tuesday to Wednesday, July 11-12. Similarly, in 2022, the event took place on July 12-13, falling on a Tuesday and Wednesday. In 2021, Prime Day occurred on June 21-22, marking a slightly different timeframe.


From 2015 to 2019, the sales event typically occurred in July, around the 16th or 17th. However, in 2020, the date was postponed to October due to the prevailing global circumstances.

How can I prepare to find deals on Prime Day?


Make sure to join Prime if you haven't already or start a free trial to take part. Remember, becoming a Prime member is the sole way to access deals and savings on Prime Day.

Additional ways to prepare include:

  • Subscribe to the newsletter: If you're a Prime member who has opted to receive emails, watch for the Prime Insider newsletter in your inbox. Stay updated on member benefits, deals, and events.

  • Enable deal alerts for personalized recommendations: Prime members can sign up to receive notifications for deals related to their recent Amazon searches and viewed items. Visit the Prime Day event page on the Amazon app before Prime Day to set up deal alerts. On Prime Day, members will receive push notifications for available deals.

  • Receive deal notifications from Alexa: Alexa ensures Prime members don't miss out on deals. Ask Alexa for notifications on products in your Wish List, Cart, or Save for Later. Just say, "Alexa, add [product name] to my cart," and request notifications for live deals.

  • Set a reminder: Tell your Alexa device, "Remind me when Prime Day starts," to be notified when the two-day event begins.
